After I got Daisy, dad took a liking to her, and so did mum! I banned dad from making any more changes, or getting any more ideas for her... so... he wanted one of his own to play with, and do what he wanted with. Hence, we got Taz, the Mk 3. He belongs to both Mum and Dad (a case of "daddy see, daddy want!")
Ok... This isn't a good start; on the way home, 1st the brakes locked up on the Scamp, so Mum and Dad had to stop, and de-tatch them, then one of the wheels on the dolly got a rather nasty puncture (by this, I mean the rim split, and tore the inner tube to shreads,) and they didn't have a spare, to make things worse, there were no shops selling wheels suitable for the hub's any were near. This is where, the AA came in to their own, and came to the rescue! They came out, and took the Scamp home for us, and the dolly was put in the back of our van and taken home that way.
Poor iccle Daisy got kicked of the drive, to make way for the AA van to drop of the wreck of a Scamp (who by the way, got the name Taz; in memory of a friend.) When Daisy grows up, she wants to be an AA truck!
I think the AA man thought we were nuts, going on, at the time we had an old metro on the drive (donor car for my scamp) and another (rather beautiful) Scamp; Daisy on the drive.
As you can see, Daisy was in a much better state at point of collection than Taz was, and she was still running, which is more than I can say for this thing! But, credit where credit's due... some one had obviously spent a lot of time on Taz's interiour at some point, as the inside had been done up quite nicely at some point... Chequer plate floors, and a well built dash.
Daisy wanted to know why she didn't get to have a lift on a trailer to places... she had to drive herself ther and back... (She made up for this on the way back from Oxford, when we decided to try and drive her home, in-stead of put her on the dolly, by systimatically cutting out where, and when she wanted. Luckily two other scampers, who were driving with us, stopped their scamps and helped... she got her way in the end, and got to do the last part of the journey on the dolly.)
Taz's last owner, had started to do him up, but ran out of time, so sold him. As you can see, Daisy thought it was great to have another friend.
Taz with Metty the Metro 16V Gti. Metty, donated the seats and belts for Daisy, along with the speakers, radio, door pockets, and winnie the pooh for Daisy. We then sold her to a guy who had been looking for a metro, in a reasonable state, to restore, and get back on the road. Oh yea... we also had the exhaust of her, so she made rather a loud noise when starting. When putting her on the dolly we had "some fun" in that, due to the low profile body work, she got caught on the dolly... then promptly fell off. With some help, we got there in the end, and took her to her new house. She got a new friend here... another metro.
The good, the bad and the ugly... aka, Daisy, Metty, and Taz.
To make Taz respectable, we painted him, as one of the 1st things we did, after getting him. Mum and Dad chose a hammered effect dreen, and I suggested using red, as a complimentary colour on some points.
Diet (a long time family friend) came over to help dad get the engine up and running (in the back ground you can see the engine from Mickey... the Mini Mayfair we were given, by a friend. He was going to do him up, then ran out of space and time, so gave him to us to use for parts.) The engine, is a 1300, that at some point is going to be put in to Taz, replacing the 1000 in there at the moment. A friend now has Mickey, to use for parts for her brothers mini (which was taken of the road years ago, due to a crash.) She wants to put him back on road, sorry, but I don't see this happening any time soon (I wanted to do the same.)
Stripping off all the old paint work.
The new paint work, wheels, wing mirrors, bonnet catches, and Scamp signs. Some-where there is also a new roof; minus the sun roof... If we want a sun roof, we will take of the top.
Scamp's in the snow... This was on Thursday 8th February 2007 (the day of my driving theory test.) As you can see, Taz and Minnie are wrapped up nice and warmly. Daisy isn't... Minnie has got her cover on, as at the time, we were having trouble with our normal car, so were going to use Minnie... but to do this, she had to be covered, to stop her locks freezing. There was about 2" of snow on them.
Minni, Taz, and Daisy on our drive; which we had to change, due to them- it used to have a trailer port, flower bed, and lawn. Daisy and I "took" down the trailor port... I let the clutch of too fast, when she was working on choke, and she promptly bolted foreward, taking out the 4"x4" post at one corner of the trailor port, snapping it in half, and coming out with only a tiny dent on her bull bar, and a bit of paint work missing on the corner of her bonnet. Doing this, she also managed to tear up the lawn a bit, with her wheels spinning, and make a nice loud crash/ bang, which got the attention of a man walking his dog on the other side of the street. The lawn and flower bed later went, due to them getting wrecked by at one point 2 Scamps, 2 mini's, a Citroen Zantia, later replaiced by a peugeot 306 Sedan, and a Vauxhall van.
Meet Mickey... The Mayfair Mini. When we 1st got him. He had to be dragged backwards on the dolly. He was left at my uncles for a bit, untill we had room on the drive. As you can see, there is enough of a garden on the drivers foot well, to enter him in Chelsea flower show, and enough of a lawn, to graze a horse on for a few months.
This car, was at one point, a young man's pride and joy. It has been camping in Wales, and to shows (including Himley.)
Mickey, once Dad and Grandad Bill had taken his engine and front sub frame out. At this point, he reminds me of one of those dogs that look like they are half way in to a hole they have dug, that you can put in your garden.
His previouse owner, was planning on doing him up, and had put in a new engine, and got a few now pannels ready to put on. He said that he had gone to start it after years of being parked up, and after not starting, a swift "tap" with a hammer on something in the engine, shifted stuff, and he started like a dream.
Mickey, after being put on to the dolly, to take im to his new home. Brian helped, as he had to be levered and propped up.
Mickey's new home, with my friend Sunny.
Taz on March 28th 2007.
He has had a lot of work done, including, a new paint job, new wheels and tyres- 13" (which incidently cost more than the car) new window frames, a new wind screen, new windows, a runnig board, Tax stickers (Dirty, Mean and Nasty,) Scamp plates, new number plates, a new roof, a de-dented bonnet, new door locks, a new areal, and areal topper, wing mirrors, bonnet catches, a new grill, new electrical stuff, new seat mechanisms, new stuff on the dash, a new stearing wheel, a new/ tidied dash, and wheel arches.
